Welcome to Cub Scout Pack 643 |
The Purpose of the Boy Scouts of America
The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America—incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916—is to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build desirable qualities of character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship and to develop personal fitness.

Cub Scout Levels/Ranks
The boys are divided into dens within their rank and led by a trained leader. All the dens combined are the Pack. The Pack is run by the Pack Committee and is headed by the Committee Chairperson. Dens meet at the times and frequency determined by each den leader. The Pack generally meets the third Friday of each month at 7:00 PM at Reba Steck School. Pack meetings and all other events are run by the Cubmaster and the Asst. Cubmaster(s). The Pack runs an annual Pinewood Derby, Raingutter Regatta and other fun events which all ranks participate in. There is an annual Lock-in for the Wolf, Bear and Webelos Scouts. The Tiger Cubs participate in other fun events designed especially for their age group. All scouts and their families are invited to attend the annual Blue and Gold Dinner held each February in honor of the birthday of scouting and to march in the annual Fourth of July parade in Aurora.
Funding for Pack 643
Our primary source of financial support is from our annual fund raiser – selling Trail’s End popcorn. The Wolf, Bear and Webelos scouts of the Pack sell popcorn during September, October and November of each year. Tiger Cubs may sell it if they wish to. Your involvement in this fund raiser is critical to the success of our Scouting year.
The Scouting Year and Rechartering
The annual Scout year runs from March to March of each year and does not coincide with the school year. You will be asked to "recharter" each March, which simply means sign up for the next year of scouting fun. Our charter is renewed each year at that time. If your son elects not to renew his membership in the Pack at that time, they will no longer be covered by the insurance provided by the BSA and will not be included in any further scouting activities from that time forward.

Fees Involved
The current recharter fee is $50 per boy and $45 for the second boy in the same family. Checks can be made payable to "Pack 643". The annual Pack fee includes a subscription to "Boys Life" magazine. Each den leader will determine how much in den dues is required for the quality program they have planned for your son. There may be times when an extra fee is required for a special event (i.e. Lock-in).
Required Paperwork/Forms to be Completed
A class I Medical form must be completed annually for each scout and kept on file with your son’s den leader. The purpose of this form is to inform the den leader of any existing medical problems and gives the BSA permission to seek emergency medical treatment in the event that you are not available.
A completed BSA application must be on file in the Council office for each and every scout participating in the Pack. This form is completed one time when a boy first joins the Pack. The form ensures that the scout is covered by the Accident Policy maintained by the BSA.
Driver, vehicle and insurance information for every parent that will be driving scouts to any event must be kept on file by the den leaders.
Each person is asked to complete a Parent and Family Talent Survey Sheet. The purpose of this form is to determine the talents and interests of the families of our boys so that the best possible program can be developed for your son and his den.
Volunteer Opportunities
The leadership of our Pack is all volunteers. There are many activities and events that must be planned and executed by parent volunteers. We cannot continue to operate without the help and support of every parent in the Pack. Please decide how you can be of service to the Pack.
Uniforms
Uniforms are required by all boys and leaders at every scout event. The only exceptions are summertime activities when the boys may wear their Pack or other scouting t-shirts. Uniforms are to be worn if marching in the annual Fourth of July parade.
Friends of Scouting
This is an annual opportunity for Scouters and interested people in
the community to be identified with the local council or national
council
through their financial support and influence in the expansion of the
council
program. Pledge cards will be handed out at the Blue and Gold Dinner. A
presentation is made by a member of the Indian Prairie District
Committee.
At that time families are asked to make a financial commitment to help
sustain the scouting program. Please check with your employer for
possible
matching donations. Completed cards are to be turned in that night. A
completed
card (whether support is elected or not) must be received from each
family.
Unit awards and other merits are based on the receipt of 100% of these
completed cards. Please do your part by completing and returning the
cards
promptly.
